All my books and stories have the same dedication:-
"To my real life Princess of long, long ago. You know who you are. Back then, you wanted to inspire me to write. You have."
I hope that one day my real life Princess will see the dedication and read what she inspired in me.
Over several years I have written a few short stories, a couple of novellas (parts of an unfinished trilogy) but most of my writing has been in my preferred format as screenplays. Most of my working life has been in the film and TV industry in one way or another.
These screenplays include movies, TV episodes, and a pilot for a TV series, and have all been for my own enjoyment and none of them have been submitted anywhere.
One way I have been inspired to write has been to devise short films set to specific pieces of music. I wrote a 30 minute love story screenplay early in my writing career and actually started to film it using an 8mm camera and a lot of help from friends. Unfortunately, our main location caught fire and burnt to the ground. It was never rebuilt so that was the end of that. To film it with lip-synch on 8mm film was impossible. It would be vastly easier to film it now on a home camcorder in this digital age. So perhaps I was way before my time, back then.
Several years ago I devised a short film, just 11 minutes long, set to "Saturn, The Bringer of Old Age" from The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst. I filmed that on video and submitted it to various amateur video competitions around the world. I was delighted to receive prizes and recognition from almost every one.
Talisman Of Power (The Amulet Of Adventure !) was also originally in film format, written as an exciting family fantasy adventure movie, but as it has always has been a favourite I decided to rewrite it as a book.
My short stories include a tongue-in-cheek Sci-fi about an unexpected pitfall of interplanetary emigration; - a horror set on an underground train; - and an introspective consideration of the attraction of female mystique. (Not actually sure what genre that falls into). The two Sci-fi novellas were written a very long time ago, (the first things I ever wrote) and in the first of them there are various situations posed, which, according to the latest scientific and astrophysic data, are now being proven to be true ……
I find it slightly spooky (but intriguing) that a situation, (and possibly similar events??) that I posed in my story from my imagination decades ago, should now slowly be unfolding as fact.....
I am currently working on a mystery/thriller/terrorist novel set in the world of movie-making, a 'first' new genre for me, but a world with which I am comfortably familiar. (Well, the movie part, not the terrorist bits). I am also putting the finishing touches to a screenplay about a modern day, Agatha Christie style mystery. Another project just started is a comedy/mystery about two elderly spinster sisters who set out to prove the innocence of their nephew when he is accused of robbery and murder.
I have always enjoyed writing; - creating characters, situations and plots, but these have always been for my own enjoyment and satisfaction. I have not previously made any attempt to have any of my work professionally read, appraised or published.
The short stories, the novellas and the novel are all now available on multiple platforms to purchase, or download as e-books.
My screenplays are not available there, for copyright protection, but in the "Short Stories And Other Narratives" book there are synopses of most of them.
